The Zacuto ZFinder/EVF is where I am heading when I get an extra $750 or so. FYI the Zacuto website is horrible, so don't go there.

Besides being expensive, how does this work?
I cannot see any "screen" (monitor) in that pic.

Thanks a bunch for the link.

$750? That's a lot of clams.

Try searching eBay for 'Lilliput LCD field monitor" to get a 7 inch HDMI field monitor for about US $200.
The Lilliput seems good ... perhaps a bit too big when going around on unbeaten trails and wet seashores?

But I have to admit that this could be an interesting alternative.

Thanks.

Oh! Just as I was seriously looking into this Zacuto piece, I failed to see if this was "orientable" at all.

I'll just go back to Google it some more and see if it does.

The Zacuto rocks because it has the Z-Finder and the LCD. The Z-Finder is their sunshade/eyepiece and it clips into the LCD so you get the best of both worlds.

Maybe this is an alternative. Don't expect a miracle, but it is liveview from a distance:

You need for Pentax to buy the Canon version. It works.

Awesome thread, I subscribed to it. I've been wanting to get an external screen for a while. It would have a large number of benefits.

The main issue is the cost and size of HDMI screens I've seen. The cheaper ones around 7" seems much too big.

Lilliput 7" HD Monitor

I just ordered a Lilliput 7" 668GL-70NPC/HY HDMI monitor with extra battery, HDMI cables, hot shoe stand, sun shade and charger for under $200.00. It is full HD 1080 x 1920. 450 cd/m2 brightness and 500:1 contrast. Should be here in about two weeks. Looking forward to using it for macro shots and video on my K5 as well as my camcorder. Will probably need all your help to get the hang of it.......

LV View

I note that in the manual they refer to the camera heating up if you use LV. there is even a temperature warning that will show. I am just wondering if you use a monitor for LV does the camera still heat up? I am not sure what causes the heat build up maybe all the info etc. that is captured on the camera display. or it could be just the inner workings of the camera with the mirror up. If the latter is indeed the case, then utilizing an external monitor probably won't make a difference. Any thoughts on the subject?

That is a good price. I think there is heat build up. Never looked into it, if it is less to ny extend. I guess some, since the monitor also uses power and thus builds up heat.

I believe it wont make a difference - as the heat would be because with LV or an external monitor the Sensor is continuously active. The LCD itself wouldn't generate much heat comparitvely. I believe the 'heat warning' is more in relation to the sensor being past a point of acceptable quality potentially based on tempreature - not so much damage to the internal elements.

This would be why the same issues can occur after 10-15minutes of Video use... reading around here - some people have just 'powered through' the over temp alerts with no issues - apparently....

I have don that just a week ago. Did some movie clips in total more then one hour. This clip was made at the last part and for the second half of it the red alert kept on. Look for some image quality difference if you like. It was taken 720p25 and one star quality to get maximum filmlength.
