Like this? Okay, it was a K20 and a Sigma 100-300/4 and a really stupid thing to do.
How was that done?
I have snapped a lot of shots straight into the sun, but have never gotten anything like that. Some kind of hazy weather condition?

Have you seen this test site, which mentions PF with the K-5 compared to the K-7?

See the comments at the bottom: SMC Pentax DA 35mm f/2.4 AL ERPhotoReview

Also this page with example photos: SMC Pentax DA 35mm f/2.4 AL ERPhotoReview

I have noticed it on my K-5 compared to a K20D.

If you mean the sample photos in the link, you can even see it in the thumbnails..... in which case there is possibly a fault with your monitor Blow it up to 400% to see the actual bitmaps.

I was on the beach at Hatteras in the very early morning. Finished what I had planned and was trying some things with a newly acquired Sigma 100-300/4. Manual exposure. Tracked some gulls and one flew into the sun. Lens was racked out to 300 mm. I think as I swung around following the bird, I shut my eyes. It was hazy, a thick August morning.

40 minutes earlier and 180 degrees opposite, it looked like this. Except this was a 6 second exposure.
