I sent my K5 to Pentax for button replacement: I'm not a Mr. Fixit type and I didn't want to compromise the water sealing.

K5 lens release button

My K5 lens release button also came of the camera body.

I delivered it to a official Pentax service center. They replaced the lens release button. The new button fell off after 2 weeks. Took the camera back to the service center. Now they said that this is a known issue with the K5. According to Pentax a new button has to be glued.

My advice would be - don't mess around with the glue yourself. Deliver the camera to an authorised service center.

ARGH! This has happened to my K-5 this past weekend. I lost the button while shooting outside...

Been without my K-5 for 4 weeks when they CRIS replaced it for the sensor stains and now this new K-5 looses the button. So now I have to be without it for even longer as I get the button replaced... Not a happy camper. Don't get me wrong, I love this camera, but now the button issues. Wish I could afford to have 2 of them so I would have a back-up.

I feel your frustration dadipentak - glad you have two K5's and that it didn't happen on the trip. I could share a story from a 2009 photo trip to Utah , Capital Reef (where I actually met some of the great pentaxians on this forum) that involves a tripod , Cullman ball head , K20D, DA* 50-135 , over the shoulder carry, release plate not quite secured and a cement road .... but I think you get the picture Hope that makes ya feel a little better (and I checked - User Stupidiity was not covered under warrenty)

Oooh, yeah--not pretty. I had a stupid user incident myself a couple of years back.

I've noticed that my lens release button is very loose and can be rotated round in circles - is this normal behaviour or could it be a pre-cursor to it falling off?

Thanks,

Adam

I dunno and I doubt anyone else does either: I can't recall anyone noticing any pre-cursor before it happened.

This is normal. Falling off isn't.

No free spinning here, K5 nor K7. They are not rigid but feel like resting against an O-ring or some kind a rubber seal. Can not spin them with my finger. With needle-nose pliers maybe.

You mean like a joystick or actually rotating like a volume control knob. Yes, normal for the former. Not so normal for the latter.

Argh. Little bugger fell of this week and I didn't even notice it until I was eating. Backtracked the whole way back to my desk and couldn't find it. Off to Pentax service center I guess. Time to dust off the K-7, I guess.

Maybe you ate it?
Sorry to make light--I know it's a bummer.
