Well hope I don't jinx myself by saying this but in the 3 weeks of ownership (not a long time I know) I've been averaging at least 3 lens swaps per day. So far the button is still where it outa be.
Glad to hear it but, yeah, you probably did. It's like bragging that you've never been hit by lightening.

I am pleased to report that the gaffer tape I put over the lens release button on my new K-5 three weeks ago hasn't budged at all. It seems to be very well made gaffer tape.
Better safe than sorry. (Of course it would be hilarious if, when I finally take that tape off, the button just comes flying out... Or, for all I know, the tape might trap moisture in there that could cause problems eventually. But I think I'll stick with it. :ugh

i'd be concerned about the circlip that has fallen off the button and is now inside the body floating around. Could get stuck behind the shutter, mirror or other mechanical parts.

I guess that blows the "K-5 and the three Queens" idea all to hell, doesn't it? Oh well. Its been done anyway.

Mine came off in December. Purchased in September 2011.

Sent first week of Jan to get repaired and got it back two weeks later.

That sucks.

OTOH, consider yourself lucky that it happened within the warranty period.

I wonder, though, if Pentax shouldn't be obliged to repair the release button even well outside the warranty period. It seems to be a systematic defect that a good company should deal with without charging.

If it happens to me outside the warranty period I will certainly make the case that they are obliged.

I just had a brilliant idea: they should offer the buttons in colors!

This thread is making me paranoid - when I removed a lens last night to try out my new DA 18-135 I held my breath to see if the button would fall off or not. My camera is in the age group where this seems to be more common. Oh well, I love my K-5 and if it happens I will post to vent and send it in. I am hoping that when they do fix them they stay that way.

And I agree - tape will hold it in place, but where is the clip inside you camera and what will it break?
