secret button pushes?

Having just yesterday got my K5 to add to the collection,[ and its everything I though it would be I love the nearly silent shutter/mirror action] I was thinking back to the heady days of when I upgraded fro a 1000d to my K10 and the fun to be had finding the "secret" options not listed in the hand book, like holding the ok button and turning the front wheel to change the ISO and the Green and Ok to set to auto ISO.
has any one found any such quirks in the K5 software? I did a forum search but did not find anything but it could be I used the wrong parameters/search strings?

But that wasn't really secret but rather functions added in later firmwares, and mentioned in the read files with the firmware. Yet it seems many people upgraded without reading what the new firmware would do.

Well when you go into menu-button to iso-settings you can change the iso to go slow, normal or fast. With that you say to the camera to take low/normal/hi iso's and by that changing the shuttertime. So hi-iso with DA*55mm and lots of light means going to 1/200th shuttertime. For normal it chouses 1/100th and 1/50th for slow.

I think most embedded systems such as a digital cameras have at least few secret sequences of keys and/or quirky ways to access functionality, most of which is probably not meant to be exposed to typical users.

How else are engineers supposed to debug these things without hooking them up to some ascii/fancy terminals?

And why should they not hook them up?
Or maybe you have to have a certain file on your memory card to access the goodies.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Haven't played in years but I still remember the codes.

maybe it's documented somewhere....but the thing i love best, is going from choosing set ISO to auto ISO, by pressing the ISO button plus the green button at the same time

also works for the exposure compensation button too--resets it back to 0 EC.

With Pentax this is usually not a key combination, but a file on the SD card. There was a modset file to be placed in the root of the card with the K-x. Then one could just turn the cam off while holding the Ev key and the system menu showed up - there one could find info regarding the actual shutter count, focus corrections for FF or BF (yes on the k-x) etc.

I tried this on the K-5, but this file does not work on it. May be someone already has the file for the k-5?

My favorite "secret" setting on the K20D was holding the OK button then turning the front dial to change ISO - well, it wasn't a secret to those who dug through the manual. As for my new K-5, I find it more awkward to hold down the ISO button with my index finger and turn the rear dial, but I guess that's still better than going into menus. So my wish for the K-5 would be a "secret" way to change ISO less awkwardly. Otherwise, much about the K-5 impresses me.
