Sigma lens stabilization off?

For lenses that have in-lens OS, the manufacturers always recommend turning off the sensor stabilization. Does the K-5 remember this setting every time i mount the lens?

Sorry for the noobie question...I only have pentax lenses, but I'm considering the Sigma 17-50 EX HSM over the DA* 16-50 and I must know!

I've got the Sigma 17-50/2.8 and I just leave the OS switch on the lens to OFF all the time, and the SR on my K-5 set to on all the time. For me, it just makes it easier when I switch lenses and not have to worry which lens I is mounted and whether the OS is on or the SR is on.

Slrgear.com prepared an interesting article on lens IS versus camera SR:
Image Stabilization Test: Olympus E-520 SLR Body - SLRgear.com!

To sum up, the in-camera "IS system [...] turned in a superb performance, very much on par with the best lens-based IS systems".

Since the camera does not remember the lens settings, why don't use an USER mode to set the SR off?

I've been using the in-body SR system rather than Sigma's. I just switch it off on the lens like the above poster. If I could have purchased my 17-50 EX with HSM but not OS I would have.

Also, is it just me or does the Sigma make a lot of rattling noises when it's off the camera body? It sounds like something is loose in there until it's mounted and the power is on.

After several months shooting with the OS on my Sigma 17-70, I've lately been using the cameras SR. Nothing scientific, but I believe that I get better, more consistent results using the SR in both K7 & K5. Plus, it eliminates that step of switching every time I swapped lenses.

Yes, that's due to the "floating" OS element. Sort of how the Pentax dSLRs make a sound when you turn the bodies, due to the "floating" sensor.
