I feel sorry for everyone who has decided not to buy a K-5 based on some non issues. No the K-5 is not perfect but its the closest camera I have had to perfect. I'm pretty sure its a better camera than me and 99% of the people on this forum are photographers.
I have to agree with my two countrymen here!
I bought one in February and it's great. Just shy of 7000 images so far...

Its still $400 too high.

Really? I hope that's just a personal preference or 'want'.
When I bought my K-5 it was considerably higher than the current US prices, but I still feel it was worth it.

It would be a "want" if I were planning on buying one. Comparatively, it is overpriced in my opinion and has been since the release date/price.

I have no doubt it is a fine camera and if my needs were for a new body at the moment, it would indeed be the one I would be considering.

Mine is off having the front e-dial repaired and I am rediscovering how heavy the K20D is.

I just ordered one yesterday at € 939,-- and this already includes 20% taxes.
Very good value I think and it should replace my D700.

Too many problems?
Too expensive?

There will never be a bug free anything, given the product cycle in this day and age.
Even my back in the day Mamiya RB67 has bugs, it does not cook my meals.
So many have the K5 and are enjoying the benefits over the older models.
I know experienced photographers who have used every Pentax Dslr from K10. I myself have used a K100 and K7, film before that.
The concensus is that the K5 is a marked improvement over all of them.
Not considering other aspects like better AF, just download the samples from Imaging Resource between your said good camera and the K5. If you find that the older camera is better, great, no need to look at buying a K5.

If a K5 now is considered expensive, then the type of camera to consider is a lower tier D5100, 60D, Kr, etc. The D5100 even uses the same sensor. Else get one 2nd hand.
This is a camera that can go toe to toe with the likes of 5DII and D700 (win some lose some), both far more expensive cameras.

I mentioned this in another post, but I've made a decision to skip the K-5. It's just too buggy a camera for me. Yes, I know there's no perfect camera and other brands have their problems as well. But there are too many issues with the K-5. I just bought a DA Limited 21mm for my K200D (which continues to work without problems). No, I'm not abandoning Pentax... but these posts from those who've decided to pass on the K-5 should serve as a warning for the company. Now, I'll wait for the K-3 and hope Ricoh's influence will help matters. Until then, maybe I'll build out my micro four-thirds kit.
Biro---Very sound decision that is in your best interest beacuse you have a Pentax DSLR that is working fine for you. No reason to rush into risk for the the reasons you mentioned. Enjoy your DA 21 which is a better investment for your situation.

I would have waited also but I was coming from film and the time was right for me to move to a DSLR and I am very happy with my K5 decision.

And if I was in the same position as you, I would no doubt do the same thing. Who knows? If Pentax surprises us with a firmware update that actually addresses some lingering issues, perhaps I could be talked into a K-5 late in its production run. In the meantime, I wish all K-5 owners the very best. I would rather be wrong than have my fellow Pentaxians saddled with problematic cameras.
