Image counts

A 'new' K5 arrived yesterday and while tying it out, I saw that the image count was around 7650. I called FOTOBOOMS (Amsterdam), the seller, and he told that it was due to my memory card that this 'unreal' click number was showing. I have 8 SD cards, all the same Sandisk 8 GB, and all of them are showing this rather high image count, all of them were formatted in that body.
Anybody else seen that?
BTW,EXIF Viewer is of no help, I am working on a mac, the production date and the shutter count aren't showing.
The serial number is 403XXXX

You can only trust the shutter count listed in the EXIF. Take a shot, export/transfer it to a PC and use the freeware Photome (PhotoME - Exif, IPTC & ICC Metadata Editor) to check the real shutter count in the photograph EXIF.

Use PhotoMe

Use PhotoMe. It will give you the correct shutter count. Plus a ton of other info as well. Best part is that it's free. Many people use it on this forum.

Here's the link PhotoME - Exif, IPTC & ICC Metadata Editor

Or if you don't feel like downloading anything, post a JPG to Jeffrey's EXIF viewer website:

Thanx guys, Jeffery's Exif Viewer brought some light here: according to 'him' the shutter count is 160, and the prod. date is 01/05/'11, much better indeed!
Now, I still wonder how it comes that the image count is that different...

The image count on the card (I'm assuming you were using filename) starts from the last image on the card. You can also reset the filenaming on the camera I think.
