Merci DaveXT,

Just quickly went back through the 24+ pages here ... sorry, for my silly question ... was going too fast through the latest parts of this thread.

I didn't read all of this, but would like to add that my K20d does the same thing. Now I have a plausible explanation as to why. In any case, I think whatever is causing this is a long standing, but very minor, issue. I don't recall this being an issue with the K-7s...

I rang CR Kennedy today and spoke to the service manager and explained the replacement K-5 I had been given also had the mirror flop issue.
He asked me to bring it back and he would see if he had another replacement from the allocated stock, I told him I did not want another one from old stock and that I required one from an unopened box. He again asked me to bring it back and he would attempt to gain new stock and then post it out to me when it arrived. Bear in mind that this is the head office/warehouse for Pentax Australia and they have no new stock?!
Just feel I'm being dicked around.
Have also discovered this faulty replacement K-5 has had over 4000 shutter activations!

Still waiting on CR Kennedy to supply me with a new fault free K-5, they don't seem to care!

I have had a lot of less than satisfactory dealings with CRK's service department. Unfortunately their lack of caring about your K5 really doesn't suprise me.

Yeah, thought so B*****ds! The serial number on the original kit I bought Oct 2011 is 4078880176524, not known what was on the old body though.
Thats a s#*tty move by CRK. I see very little point buying Australian stock when this is the type of warranty/service we receive. Very disappointing.

I'm tossing up weather I buy my K-01 locally or from b&h. Increasingly starting to think the premium price we pay here in Australia isn't worth it.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I had to vent somewhere. My 6 month old k-5 just started the mirror flop today the same day I just bought another lens for it.

My camera scared me the other day - I took a photo and it started shooting by itself. Turns out I hit the "RAW" button which I programmed to put the camera into bracketed exposure mode.

Can't say it never happened to me before.

I just read this over on "the dark side" - the one with the black background

K5 mirror slap issue FW solution available!: Pentax SLR Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review

Haven't checked or seen anything concurring with this claim.

Heck I don't even have a a K-5 yet (maybe soon or K-5n, K-5s, k-3 ???)

Another CRK horror story I heard from a supplier.

A guy bought a new in box 645D about $12K at the time. When testing it in the field and found a small issue. It already had someone elses copyright info and contact details already in it!! Shutter count of a several hundred IIRC.

I might give it a go when I get home tonight. If anyone else gives it a try please post what you found.

If there really is a fix, Pentax is doing their customers a big disservice by not putting it into a publicly available firmware update. I suppose there's a chance that it's the firmware on another chip in the camera that can't be flashed by normal means but that seems unlikely.
