GPS Module O-GPS1 Availability?????

Well, I was excited to learn of this GPS module in anticipation of a trip; logging the locations of various shots would be great. I want one for my K-5!

But everywhere I check, they are out of stock!!! What gives? Introduce a product and then it can't be found anywhere??? Pentax! For shame!

Does anyone have a link to an outfit that actually has these gizmos???

I believe the O-GPS1 was scheduled to hit the shops early august. They always announce a bit in advance to study the demand and to save themselves troubles keeping the product in secrecy.

Better than the Bad old days in the Silicon Valley, when computer companies were widely accused of issuing a press release announcing a new product, and then waiting for the reaction to the announcement before deciding whether to begin development.

I worked for a company that made "limited edition collectibles" and would advertise with prototypes... then they'd only go into production when they got 15,000 orders or more. If they had fewer than that, they'd send out 14,000 responses of "sorry, but due to the limited nature of this product, your order cannot be fulfilled!"

It was/is a $2 billion a year company! So many suckers out there...

So that means the only truly limited versions were those that didn't make it beyond the prototype stage. Sounds like a good production model for a premium car company (or a camera company) if they could keep development costs down and ramp up production reasonably quickly.

I have one of those prototypes on a shelf - it's truly worthless as well!

Only "limiteds" I'm interested in now are made from precision glass and aluminum with PENTAX on the cap. The GPS unit sounds interesting, except for the "shake it to calibrate" each time you start it up...

At least one person in the UK has one. But I've been told early August for Australia and the US shops i buy from online don't have them yet either.

I just got my two GPS units the other day from Dons Photo in Regina SK. Have not used them yet but hope to by end of August when I have about 4 days of freedom. They are very light and mount snuggly on the hotshoe. They use a single AAA battery.

I pre-ordered/paid for mine and have been using it for a couple of days! I think it is the PERFECT combination to the K5 and whatever camera can use it! The integration with the camera, and the GPS locks on pretty quick. This is a must have accessory! Way to go Pentax!

Tested it with your TTL flash cable yet whilst using a TTL flash ? Keen to hear what the results are...

No TTL flash. I don't have one that works with the K-5.
