I'm thinking of buying the K5 from Adorama very very shortly. My question is are all the problems ironed out and the subsequent copies mostly problem free?--thanks--charliezap

Go For It!

You're not going to feel any buyers remorse on this buy. Go with Adorama for the K5 and for $19.99 you can get the extended warranty.

I may have had some overexposure problems with bounced flash pre FW1.10 but with FW 1.11 there is no problem left.

Don't worry about any problems—those are all fixed. I've been shooting my K-5 since March and have only had pure joy. You'll never regret it.

It's a very good camera. Most people have a perfectly working copy. It's worth the investment.

Searching internet, I found Pentax K5 for $1119 at:

Does anybody have experience dealing with them?

I believe that there are some people in this forum that have dealt with them before. Mostly good if I am not mistaken.

I also think that most of the NY - NJ area shops get their distribution from the same warehouse location. Could be wrong about that though.

You already know what Otis says.....and when has Otis been wrong on the K5? You don't get that Otis Guarantee with any other camera in the world....you know that too!

Relax....place your order and prepare to be amazed!
Right Otis?
[IMG] [/IMG]

....why are you guys here always so uptight? Relax, the K5 is a pure winner! If it wasn't I would have already beat it to death and obliterated Tokyo with my Giant Squirrel Army......you know that too!
Regards/Otis

Sorry about that....I just do what I am told......

I would check a few things 1st.

1. BBB to see what their rating might be.
2. Check to see if they're an authorize Pentax Dealer.

I'm not sure, but I remember somewhere reading it's best to purchase from Authorized Pentax Dealer only. Something to do with warranty.. I really don't remember, but maybe someone can jump in on that.

Also, while the BBB rating might not be good, you might have great luck with them. I've had small low rate shops give me great deals and great service. While, one of the largest photo stores in NY treated me like junk.

That's why now, when it comes to items which go above $100, I will only purchase from Amazon or Adorama.

Well Charlie - hymning and hawing for months I came to the realization that life is indeed short so wtf I pulled the plug myself this afternoon. Battery is charging - firmware on the computer ready to update - the bad news is I have to work tonight - the good news is it's raining outside anyway ) - the better news is the weekend is almost here

The even better news is McBain Camera (for those Canadians on the forum) matched Camera Canada's price (best I could find for Canada on sites I trust) - last time I asked them they said no as the store was in Ontario (I am in Alberta) - however perhaps I have dropped enough coin there over the last 5 years to merit a match price
