Camera ON for long periods of time

I keep forgetting to turn my k-5 off! I never had this problem with the k-x for some reason . I almost think the k-5 turns it self on in my bag hehe. Just now I took my camera out, and it was on. It have been on like this for 6 days And I have multiple times forgotten it ON for a day or so.

It turn's it self off after 1 minute, but is it really off? Is it harmful for the camera to be ON but in auto power off? The battery is full, so it haven't drained any electricity that I can see.

You would most likely have bumped shutter and done the half-shutter press or hit playback... It does sleep - until you hit a button

I'm not sure I understood you. Is it harmful for the camera to be in "sleep" mode for a long period (days) ?

Nope, it's the same as being turned off except that it is not locked.

Not harmful in itself, BUT if something rests against a button and wakes the camera up continually it could drain the battery.
I don't use a camera bag, and so nothing is crowded around my cameras, so I generally leave them on. (Both K-5 and Leica M9.) My old film cameras are another story, as the meters will drain the tiny batteries quickly - so those are carefully turned off.

I don't think it will hurt a thing, I leave my K-x on almost constantly, except when I have to pull the memory card to transfer pictures, which is daily. I turn it back on soon as the card goes back in, it stays on overnight, all the next day and until I pull the card again. Same as a computer I can't see it doing any harm at all, it simply goes into "sleep" mode. I do the same with my desktop at home, it stays on 24/7. I shut it down once a year or so to blow the dust out, and reboot it once every couple of months. I've never had any trouble with either.

I also left my Samsung S730 p&s on all the time, same thing, it never seemed to cause any trouble, it would go to sleep too.

Unless you move your bag around all the time during that six days, it should be ok.

I have kept a K100D, a K20D, and now a K-5 in my truck with me at work, where they get turned on at the beginning of the day and left on until I finish....my typical workday is 14+ hours. They have all stayed on for a couple of days numerous times. Never had the slightest problem (and batteries last me roughly a week on a charge....no autofocus, no auto review).

And saves all the settings (instead of just what is checked under "remember"). I use this a lot.
