using pre-set nr or customizing?

given the outstanding high iso capablilties of our k-5's.... just curious as to how many folks change the factory pre-set and customize to their own liking.... dave m
(fyi... i changed the preset not to include any nr until iso 1600, and here, just added one 'bar' of strength)..

I set it off since I don't like the smearing that Pentax uses for noise reduction.

Hi dcmsox2004,

I agree with Ron, and didn't find any in-camera NR setting acceptable, so I turned it OFF completely.

I primarily shoot jpegs. After some early disappointment with high ISO, I discovered that the K-5's jpeg engine was causing quite a bit of accentuation of noise artifacts, so I set Sharpening to -4, and now am a very happy camper.

I do all NR and sharpening in post with Topaz Denoise and InFocus, and rarely have to go past a light application of NR up to ISO 10,000 for a reasonably exposed shot.

It's personal preference, so for me I set high ISO NR to begin at ISO 12,800 starting at low, then going to medium by 25,600. It rarely comes in to play for me since most of my shots are at ISO 6400 or less.
