At a glance everything looks good to me, although the exif data wasn't preserved in the image.

The goose's head looks reasonably sharp at this reproduction size, though I'm sure it was moving at the time. What was the shutter speed? Were you shooting wide open? I've read some on here opine that the 50-135mm doesn't come into its own until around f/5.6, and I'm inclined to agree, although it's certainly useable wide open.

My AF works okay

Last Saturday, dedication of Cary Arts Center , Cary, NC, hand held K-5 & 50-135.

Ballet dancer - From back wall of 400 seat theater, 135mm, f4, 1/250, ISO1600.

Indian dancer - Closer, from aisle, 85mm, f4, 1/250, ISO 3200

Not sure which of 2 K-5 bodies used, never adjusted either. Much more important to track with the AF button. Leave AF in Single & get confirmation. I do this a lot.
