k5 play back slow why?

Hi I must have changed something but I have no idea what. I have always had the instant preview set to either 1 or 3 seconds and if that was to quick to go off I could press the review button and the image would be there.

Now if I do that there is a hour glass for a few seconds then the image appears , if I set the preview to the maximum time then by the time it goes out the image will appear as soon as I press the review button.

Some thing is slowing the storage down and I can't see what.

Shooting raw only same card and I tried a differnt card/s

Any idea what I can have changed?

Are you shooting high ISO shots now, long shutter speed shots, or did you turn on some sort of highlight or shadow correction?

Anything that involves processing - HDR, filters, lens correction, etc. Worst case - re-set to factory defaults.

That also includes highlight correction. ISO 1600 and above also slows down processing, esp. if high ISO NR is selected (and may also exist on factory default settings). So you may want to turn high ISO noise reduction off yourself.

That's all well and good but he says he shoots RAW only. I would look to see that you didn't bump the FX (RAW) button on the front and go to RAW+ (unless you have it programmed to something else) or accidentally change it in the rear screen menu system with one of the e-dials. In that case, all of the above could apply. I have all corrections and NR turned off on my camera.

Even when shooting in RAW with Pentax lenses mounted, if lens correction is on the camera still exhibits playback delay. But indeed, check your modes and if you're not sure, do a factory reset, then check again.

I had similar problem with long wait for instant previews after shots, I thought it was the raw/jpg settings, but that wasn't it, same wait for both. well, turned out the previous owner turned on the distortion correction. I turned it off and the long wait was gone.

Shouldn't be a mystery. I once had the same problem and it was, as Ash and others said above, : highlight or shadow (or both) correction that will slow your camera almost to a standstill. Switching them off solves all the issues.
