K7 Discontinued.

Is a new upper-end model coming out?

The K-5 is the K-7's succesor. As for 'upper-end', if you mean a full-frame body then you may not see one come next release. But let's wait and see some time early 2012...

Right, it was officially discontinued a while back, but now it seems the old stock has run out. It would be nice if Pentax could support more than just 2 models at a time, as it would attract a broader range of customers.

What else (besides a FF) could anyone want, a fabulous cheap SLR or an out of this world sensational SLR. That equals 2

I always have trouble understanding what "Discontinued" means, in the context of the fact that I can go to the PENTAXUSA web site---a somewhat official one I think, and find the K-7 listed for sale and as being "in stock" and promising 1 day shipping. It is position wise, the last item on their list of SLR's after the K-x's which don't seem to be in stock which is a message--- but it's still there.

Likewise merchant's such as Amazon so it in stock. so what does "discontinued mean?

Discontinued for me means they stopped manufacturing them, but still provides warranty support/repairs etc. It doesn't mean they stop selling also as they may have plenty of unsold stock.

I'm still seeing brick-and-mortar camera stores here selling K20D's and K2000's new off the shelf.

The profile says South Africa so I am going to go out on a limb and guess that it is probably, South Africa.

There are still stocks of new K-m's (K2000's) in store in Australia. I feel sorry for anyone buying them as they are priced above K-x's.

K-7 discontinued

May be.

But the fact there is no "Pentax K-7 Forum" on this PENTAXforums.com is apparently indicative of the fact that K-7 was discontinued.
