I also talked to square trade and they said they wouldn't provide warranty on non-US purchased items.

is there gonna be any import tax on it?

It comes with 2 year Canadian warranty. I know Pentax U.S.A won't accept the warranty tho

any suggestion.?
There should be a 1 year international warranty on it.

Henry's in Toronto, Canada is advertising the K5 for $999.99 CAD to October 18 in their latest flyer.

I was planning on picking up a 70-200 Sigma 2.8 to mount on my K7, but at that new price at Henry's, it sure is tempting. I'm heading to the Photo & Video Imaging Expo tomorrow, and it's basically mainly sponsored by Henry's. I wonder what deals they'll have....

Final thought.. which one would you buy:

1- Canadian retail $999 + $12.95 shipping comes with 2 year Pentax Canada warranty ( not eligible for square trade warranty ) or

2- B&H $1199 one year Pentax U.S warranty + AMEX one year extra ( eligible for square trade warranty )

I'm in the same boat as dr_romix, with a twist. My K5 just arrived, but I'm not sure if I should keep it or not.....

Buy.com had a special 1 hour promotion last Friday where you got 20% back in their "superpoints" on ANY purchase. So I purchased from ProDigital2000....which I now know is a Canadian dealer (doh!). They've assured me that I get the 1 year Pentax International warranty, plus another 1 year warranty if I send it back to them (evidently to sent to Pentax Canada for me). I could probably live with this just fine....but....

Turns out I do not qualify for the 20% back in "superpoints" because I chose the paypal checkout option. Evidently you can only get the points if you use their checkout system. My plan was to use the superpoints to get the BG-4 grip. So in the end, I would have had a K5 and BG-4 grip for $1050. Pretty slick deal....if only it had worked.

So now I'm trying to decide if I should keep the K-5 or not. I got it for $1050, which is still a pretty dang good deal on a K-5. I've been trying to find one used at a decent price, but the best they seem to be going for is $900-950 (and sometimes even $1000!). So in reality I'm only spending $150 max over used, which isn't shabby since it's got a 0 shutter count and no stain issues guaranteed. Plus if you figure I still get the 2 year warranty for it, I'm having a hard time sending it back.

Flash JT,

I talked to Pentax in Colorado and they said they would cover the 1year international manufacture warranty as long as you have prove of purchase outside Paypal or Ebay. so if you keep your Canadian receipt, you should be ok. Also I used my American Express CC to pay with paypal so that Amex gives me one extra year warranty on top of it. After the 2nd year, you can fix it anywhere in the U.S and AMEX reimburses you the charges.

hope this helps.

Thanks Derek!

Now to decide if I can live with it for $1050, or if I should wait for another deal to come around. $1050 is a great price, but it doesn't seem so hot knowing I could have had both the camera AND the BG-4 for the same price. Actually just talked with a supervisor from Buy.com customer support. Might not be screwed over just yet. The power of the almighty supervisor may save me....

Good luck with your purchase! You probalby already know my vote....Canada since it's almost $200 cheaper. I'm a sucker for a deal, especially on a high $$ item like this. I know people go on the "but you get better service from B&H" wagon, and I'm sure they do. To me, however, I've never used/needed the kind of "extra" service they offer, so it's not worth the $200 premium to me.

Good luck with the supervisor. Be nice to him/her and hopefully things will workout for you.
I'm like you too. $200 is $200 why not saving when I can... I'm going to buy 50-135 DA* from B&H. They have the best deal with additional 2 year warranty purchase...
Also I would recommend you to get an AMEX Delta GOLD or any other card that gives you one year extra warranty on all electronics and sometime I don't even buy extra warranty as I know, my AMEX would cover one year extra which is usually enough.. Old saying said, if there are supposed to show any malfunction, it usually shows in the first year or so...

Has anyone in the USA ordered the $999 deal from Canada yet? What, if any, are the gotchas associated with ordering internationally aside from warranty changes? As Derek asked, are there any import taxes?

I might have to jump on this deal. Are you guys purchasing any extended warranties for your K-5's? I might apply for AMEX card to get the extra 1 yr of warranty coverage as well.
