Paid $1199 CDN in a local store on the weekend. Nice to see the same price in Canada.

Those 'other' retailers......

Went to check on the reviews of one of those 'bargain' camera stores and I found this blog review. Currently, this camera store is coming up with the cheapest prices on the K-5. At first glance, their customer rating also seem good. After reading this blog review and a closer look at the comments on the review sites, I'd ONLY want to risk my money at one of the more 'expensive' trusted retailers. At least I'd be getting a genuine Pentax and my credit card information would be safe.

But read the review.... teleoscope: BestPricePhoto Jack Webb Version: Just The Facts Ma'am

Are those signs that something else bigger is coming? Like a M1 or M2 (M for mirrorless)?

Not really. If you buy them in Adorama, the extra comes to about $100. The reason I bought it from ADORAMA is because I trust the brick and wall stores, and the experience buying from them. Same with BH and KEH (this last one are really good at providing asssurance for their stuff).

UPDATE:

I just got my K5 from Adorama. There is only one thing I regret: Not having purchased it before. For $300 bucks I missed one year of K5. That is the greatest camera ever. I cannot believe I shot my first pictures at night indoor and they came out perfect. What a camera!!! I will post more stuff about it later.

Here is my first shot with the K5, fully automatic (in green mode):

Is now the time to buy?

I'm a newb to DSLRs, but after reading up for the last several months, I've decided that I would really like a K-5 as my first choice, with choice 1B being a Nikon D7000. The trouble is my wife has no clue what separates a $600 camera from a $1200 camera, nor the patience to have me explain it to her. If Pentax or Nikon would come down another $100-$200 off their admittedly very good current prices, it would be a much easier sell.

So having said all that, for those of you who have followed this stuff for years, do cameras prices tend to drop signicantly around Black Friday or Christmas? Or is the current $300 discount more than I should hope for already?

I guess I should add: I'd like to stay away from the gray market shops or the refurbs.

The K-5 right now is very close to the absolute minimum it will ever sell for. Big rebates on new Pentax gear are extremely rare, although from time to time, they do launch mail-in rebate programs on top of retail price drops.

Had I known how good this K5 was, I would have bought it at the original price one year ago. I missed one year of fun for trying to save $300. Go for it now!

The customer service at Adorama was very helpful, too. I acquired the information that this batch of K-5 was shipped in from Pentax on Sep 12. Definitely new production there.
How did you get that deal for that price? I see it at 1499 with that price

is there gonna be any import tax on it?

It comes with 2 year Canadian warranty. I know Pentax U.S.A won't accept the warranty tho
