K-5 on ebay $1048

There's a couple stores on ebay that are now selling the K-5 for $1048-$1050, Free shipping. Does anyone have any experience with these stores? Can they be trusted?...or should I just pay the extra $150 and buy from BH Photo or Adorama?

You can check the feedbacks for start and then see if paypal is an option....but even if they're OK you must consider about the customs and the taxes if the camera must be imported..
I got K5 today for 895 euros in Greece.
Now if we make the convertion of 1050$ that costs on ebay,equals to 754 euros,not good enough (for me) because I would pay more than 140 euros to the Customs [(in Greece) , check for your country] .
Also consider the warranty.

Just my thinking...B&H and Adorama...they are there...well known...trusted...dependable. Just a phone call away, always helpful, no high pressure to add on a ton of junk with your order. Worth it to me!

There is also a Silver K5 for sale in the Marketplace for $1000 - in Europe, though...
I wonder what my wife would say if I bought 'her' one?

The ad I read stated that the cameras were covered by a 90 day parts and labor warranty and a 1 year parts warranty but not a factory warranty. Also my previous experience with Pentax for warranty issues is that ebay and paypal receipts are not accepted.

Pentax was ok with servicing my Canadian K-X, which was bought at a brick and mortar store, and paid with paypal (and subsequently shipped). Maybe it's different in for Pentax USA?

It really comes down to whether or not they are a legitimate Pentax dealer. Pentax USA will still legally recognize an international warranty.

I'd say buy from a reputable dealer and buy the cheap official extended warranty...

I did buy a lens from ProDigital2000 with success, but it looks like they are selling at the same price as stores in the USA.

Hmmm there is an interesting parallel between this and the dilemma Australians face. Pay $1200 to a reputable US dealer, or $1860 to the equivalent market leader in the local market.

Yeah, it's harder to return to an offshore dealer. I think I'll take that chance for the sake of $660. (The difference with the OP's dilemma is that at least the cheaper alternative in my case is still reputable. Lose that for $150... not so sure.)

In any case, another post on these forums highlights the fact that Nikon spares its Australian customers this dilemma by banning offshore retailers from competing with local extortionists. We get a lot of that here in AU unfortunately. A lot of things are twice the price. So much for free market economics.
