Does anyone here use the Tamron 18-200mm lens? If so can I see some sample shots. Thanks.

I recall an old Ken Rockwell review.....I think it was mostly positive....but I went with the 18-250 for the extra range. At 250 it is not so great for IQ if your subject is at a distance, but closer in, very good.
Regards!

The Tamron 18-200mm is an older generation lens. It was surperseeded by the Tamron 18-250m which is regarded as superior in terms of IQ and focal length range.

Read the review of the Tamron 18-250mm in Camera lens tests, user reviews, camera accessory reviews - SLRgear.com! Tamron Lens: Zooms - Tamron 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II LD Aspherical IF Macro AF (Tested) - SLRgear.com!. "Given its shorter zoom range, you'd expect the original 18-200mm lens to outperform the new 18-250, but that proved not to be the case. The 18-250mm beat its 18-200mm predecessor all hollow when it came to sharpness. Wide open, the 18-250 was much better behaved, and sharpness was markedly better across the board."

and the review of its sibbling DA18-250mm in Welcome to Photozone! Pentax SMC DA 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 ED AL [IF] - Review / Lab Test Report. "The Pentax SMC DA 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 ED AL [IF] is a worthy representative of its species. Naturally it is not comparable to more specialized zoom lenses, not to mention fix-focals, but within its scope it does a good job."

In summary: I would recommend to go for the Tamron 18-250m/DA18-250mm if you have the means.

I have the 18-200. People grumble about it but it's a decent walkabout lens if you get it at a good price.

Some people on this forum have taken great photos with it. Search PFF to find some.

Why did Tamron drop the 18-250, and not make an18-270 version for Pentax?

Alas, grasshopper, we may not be able to answer questions of this nature.

But perhaps Ricoh can bribe, er I mean encourage Tamron to change this.

If Ricoh grows Pentax into a major player, more 3rd-party glass may appear.

I've used the Tamron 18-250 on the K100 ->K200 and now on the K-5. Find it a good solution for most cases especially while traveling (Just remember to put "high poles" in the middle so you will not see the barrel affect )
