A little advice? SR working?

I am playing around with the K5 which I bought used. Now I am one to blame user over machine 9/10 times but take a look at these pictures. Please tell me where I am messing up. I would normally sit down and just RTFM and play around, but I only have so long to complain if there is reason to complain.

These results are easily duplicates
Both shot at ISO 1600 55m F4 1/10
Now I am a shakey individual and it shows here. SR off

So I should turn SR ON, But I get this

As I said this is easily repeatable. The symbol for SR is showing in the viewfinder, in Fact on this one I counted to 5 before snapping. Please tell me I am doing something wrong!!

Just to check, 1st is with SR off, hand-held and second is with it on hand-held? In that case it could be broken. Unless the lens information did not register with the camera.

EX Finn - Correct - Even though it is showing the correct focal length (55mm) in lightroom it is saying the lens is the sigma 70-200 (I am using the sigma 24-70). Is there something I can do to manually change that?

Looks to me as if the switch has reversed positions. That "SR On" shot is exactly as it should look for a normal person without SR on at 1/10 second.

Someone using that lens might be of better help, I only have/use Pentax lenses.
But sure looks like the SR is over correcting for the glass.

p.s. Only time I can manually enter the focal length is when using old manual glass or telescopes and the cam powers up asking for the focal length. If there is a way, I never crossed it.

My three suggestions:

Yeah, try another lens if possible.
Mount it on a tripod and then try both with SR and without.
Try different settings, e.g. f/2.8 ISO 1600 1/20

Keep trying different combinations until you can completely pinpoint what exactly is going on. Of course, we're here to help!

Cheers, Mike.

It does happen at all settings except when my shutter speed is fast enough (DUH, lol). Anyway I really can not do further tests until my new lens comes in. Until then I will most likely start another topic to see if there are any users with this combination and see if thier K5 properly identifies it. My guess is that is the problem, but now have to figure out if it is the body or lens. Thanks everybody.

If you are using the 24-70 and it is registering as the 70-200, then presumably the camera thinks you are shooting somewhere between 70-200 and providing SR for the incorrect 70-200 focal length. If so, then the SR would be all wrong for an actual focal length of 24-70.

Searched:

In the above-linked thread, Frank says "Called our Sigma service center just now, they can rechip the lens for me". You should probably do the same.

Yeah, that is true, but the focal length is actually correct (55mm). Would that make a difference?. I do agree with you however and think that is the root of the problem. Do you think that is body or lens related problem?

OK search function does wonders

Seems it is a problem with the sigma lens firmware. A member posted back in August about this very problem. Of well I guess the lens is going back, becasue there are no sigma centers close to me.

Try on tripod with sr on to see if the sr is adding motion--even if it has wrong focal length seems like it should add very little--if it adds lot of motion likely camera problem. If you lens has aperature ring put it in non A position and input focal length. If not then insulate contacts (presume it will think it is a K lens) and input focal length and let camera take photo wide open.

Yes, it definitely makes a difference, the longer the focal length, the more the camera has to move the sensor in order to compensate for the shake. If it think the focal length is 150 and it is really 55, you will get a mess (as you did).
