Why would they make a 33 if there is already 35 and 31? They don't produce a 73mm (or so) to fit between 70 and 77, do they?

Agree with twitch and hcc. FA 31 Ltd is one of the finest primes on the market...

I'm with you. I like a little wider than the crowd. When a 35mm was a 'standard' wide angle in the film days, I used a 28.

And the equivalent FOV on APS-C is 18mm. Hmmm, where can I get an 18mm lens?

If we're looking at short work on APS-C, then 14-15mm are pretty outrageous, and 21mm is pretty good. Again, I don't have the fancy stuff, but my PKM Kiron 24/2, and M42 Tokina 21/3.8, and PKM Zenitar 16/2.8, cover the territory distinctly and nicely, if not quite as elegantly as my Tamron 10-24.

Those are nowhere near 'normal' -- unless we get used to a certain focal length and *perceive* it as normal for our use. Why, leaving my DA18-250 locked at 18mm just seems normal...

I was a lot like that in the film days. Today, I love shooting with the DA 21 Limited and also the DA 12-24.

No, I think it's a correct comparison. You can do anything with a 70mm that you can do with a 77mm focal length. Just as you could do anything with a 33mm that you could do with a 31mm. I really was not saying we need a 33mm, what I was saying was that I'd like a DA 31mm equal...

Really the #1 thing holding me back from the 31mm is the filter issue. I'll ask again, is it true it ONLY accepts 58mm filters because of the built in hood? I run 77mm filters with adaptor rings and I really don't want a complete set of 58mm filters for 1 lens. (Though I may break down because of the IQ!

Exactly---- which is more often than using a 'favorite prime', I use a favorite zoom----- the DA* 16-50 Mostly at the wide end.

The hood on the 31 is not removable or retractable so whatever the filter thread is, is it. I've never put a filter on mine however. If you really want to use your 77mm filters you could probably rig an adapter that slips Over the lens hood and could then adapt to any size you want. I wouldn't let lack of a removable hood (which is what you are coming down to) stop me from buying the 31 if I were hell bent on having one. There is more than 1 way to skin the proverbial cat and since you Already, 'adapt', it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to come up with a simple solution for the FA31.

How often do you 'need' one inch DOF?

You know, when you can actually use 1600 iso, the difference between F2.8 and f1.9 really is meaningless. My photoshop skills are up to blurring any part of any photograph I choose, so I'm not sure where my mental block is? The DA 35mm macro is a spectacular lens which I just need to start using. And that I think is the answer. (Though just for the sake of kicks and giggles, I may pick up the 31mm some day while I still can.

The only thing holding me back from replacing my FA35 with DA35 macro is that I ocasionaly like to use Fa35 on a film camera. Besides that it is DA35 all the way.
