I used the K7 for quite a while before I finally decided to get the K5, so I'm almost 100% familiar with it right out of the gate (one reason I was able to write that review so fast). In this day an age, it's easy for excellent cameras to get lost in a hurricane of new announcements that the Digital Photography world has become. My thought is that a great design is a great design no matter how long it's been out to the public. It just so happened that I now have more time to write about other brands of cameras and the K5 took me by complete surprise in many respects (mainly because of the image quality and improvements over the K7).

I think there is a lot of focus on the negative and not nearly enough focus on the positive about the K5- like they say, much easier to be negative than positive about things. Unless you're talking about the K5 of course.

I am sure that K-5 is a great camera when it happens to work right.

It's worked right for me every time, are you referring to the old issue with the sensor that Pentax did their best to fix?

Stain apparently is not an old issue. It is an on going issue. I wish it was the only issue. I don't know how you know that Pentax did their "best." If that is the best they got, I think they are in trouble. This is a Japanese product. The sheer amount of QC problems this camera has had is nothing short of utter embarrassment. K-5 reminds me of Ford Pinto.

Ah I see. Did you own a K5 that had that issue? If so I could see why you'd be upset. My understanding is that Pentax sent a service notice out to fix the cameras free of charge, is that the case still or did they revoke that?

I sent my second (I have two) K 5 in Pheonix for repair and CLA. I bought it off ebay and it had a lot of what I believe to be sensor stain but it only about 2600 clicks on it.. I need to call them back and see how the repairs are going. They tel me thay are repairing it under warrenty and I did not send any warrenty info with it. Seems fair to me. Will let you know when I heare back. My other K 5 is great. Most fun camera i have ever had.

Sounds fair indeed, let me know when you get it back. I'm keeping a tally on those sending in for service and how well Pentax is handling this. So far seems a majority of happy customers, but it's early on in the tally.

Well, I got my K5 back from the Pentax repair in AZ and it came back in three weeks. Seems to be fixed and has a new sensor. Works great so far.

I have had mine for nearly 12 months. Mine was one of the very early ones (Nov.2010).
With constant use (just on 10,000) it has not missed a beat. Not a single problem of any type.

Camera of the Decade?? Gets my vote, hands down!
