K-5 M-mode over exposure?

I just came back from a one week trip. I took many pictures ... I was using M-mode most of the time and tried to have the EV+- at 0 when shooting at sunlight. However when I came back home, I found many of the pictures appear to bright with too much light exposure.
but it seems show already when I looked at the LCD screen while at outside.

Do I need to keep the EV+- below 0 when shooting under sunlight ?

what metering mode were you in? If you were in center-weighted/spot, then the meter is taking a reading from the area in the middle of the image and trying to make that into 18% grey. If this area is in shadow, then this results in blown highlights, since its trying to make the shadow into the middle exposure

I had a similar problem with my K-x first time out (in all modes) and ended up dialing in priority to preserving highlights. I've had two big outings with the K5, and the last one made me think the K5 would benefit from this setting as well. Neither were in M mode, though.

Preserving highlights is critical in a digital image. There is so much detail in the shadows on the K5, that I am thinking that metering for the highlights (whether manually or automatically) makes even more sense than usual.

Make sure you give us the exposure data as well, lenses used, other settings (metering type, etc).
