I had the 50-200 lens back with the K10D and was never really happy with it, although I have seen some others that have posted some nice work with it.

You might consider a lens upgrade, I think it could make a big difference in your shooting....the K5 is fully capable of superb images, they are seen everywhere. Or....you could just learn to shoot Squirrels, they are not all that picky about IQ, as long as you show their "handsome side"....and give them an apple slice.

Thanks for the info! My photos taken with the 50-200 da wr lens seem to have a shadow around the pic on close up objects, is that a defect?

I like that duck! The color is great and the image is certainly acceptable to me. What counts is you......I've hardly ever seen a photo that gets universal acclaim, so it is best to please yourself and worry less about the views of others....within reason, of course.

I have a lot of K5 shots I think are superb....but I also have some that I love that are not so great in many regards. If perfection is a goal, I will never get there, but if I could, the K5 would be fully capable.

Best Regards!

Your images on flikr look pretty good. The duck shots are ok, The bass boat and the P-38 are very nice IMO.

Cheers, Mike.

I agree with Ex Finn's comment, only minor problems such as a bit of noise and the need to adjust colour and lighting which can be done easily in a Post Processing program such as Adobe Photoshop CS5 or something similar. All in all they are quite good and Rupert has given you some wise words to think over. Sometimes I think Rupert may be a Sage!

To what does this refer? Are there messages missing from this thread? I'm confused.
7/10 of a step, relating to what, exactly??

If that duck photo is straight from the camera, I'd say you are doing quite well. The colors are very vibrant and clear. You're probably thinking the IQ isn't very good because the lens was wide open for that shot. That lens especially isn't very sharp at maximum aperture. Try shooting at f/8 or smaller for optimum sharpness if shallow depth of field isn't something you need for the shot you want.
