Should battery go flat this soon.

I fitted in a brand new fully charged (genuine) Battery last Saturday.
I've had the camera powered up probably less then 3hrs in total and taken less then 100 shots with it.

I'd left the battery in the camera body the entire time.

Tried turning on the camera now so only total of 6 days and it's dead as would seem to be with a flat battery.
I've put the battery on charge now to see what happens later.

Anything I should know or be doing?

Thanks.

Did you take many flash pictures, or shoot videos or use Live View a lot?
And are you sure it was fully charged to begin with? The initial charge takes about six hours, I think.

Live view on for 3 hours would do it or even sooner, as would several other shooting modes. All depends on how you had it set up.

edit, come to think of it, just having the camera on for solid 3 hours could be demanding on the battery.

Something wrong there. I've got over 2,000 shots with both my generic and Pentax batteries

No, total of 3 hrs (guessing) of off and on with setting up and taking photo's. Not 3 hrs of on all the time.
No flash used at all. Live view perhaps 20 mins of that total 3hrs. If that. No video.

Put on charge (by the shop) on Friday night prior to my collecting camera on Saturday morning.

Ignore the shop charge.
Go back to your normal shooting / charging routine and then see if something has changed.

I've put the battery on charge again now. Have to go out so cannot watch to see when the green light goes out but I'll leave it on for 6 hrs and try again this evening.
Is it better leave the battery out of the body except when using it? Had I been planning on not using the camera for some time it's what I would normally do but did not think 6 days with little use was a lot.

Yeah that doesn't seem right. Give it a full charge to make sure it isn't user error, if you are still getting the same battery life then get it replaced.

I always leave the batteries in the body, they last forever. Still, 3 hours of setting up and fiddling is a long time IMO.

Ok, well lets assume it was just that. Again I stress it was not 3hrs continueous it was off and on but as I understand new batteries require a couple of cycles to achieve full potential so we'll wait and see.

I have no idea what camera is being used here. I do know that my k100ds eats batteries (unless they are eneloops), the k10d/k20d are kind to them, and the k5 is all over the place in battery performance. Just depends on usage.

I have two Pentax batteries for my K5. Both of them respond the same. Recently at an assignment I had the camera on constantly from 7:30am until mid afternoon. It did go to standby from time to time but it shot well over 500 shots. The battery was still going strong and I did not have to swap for my spare. The camera set to AV, no flash, auto focus, and no live view. I would assume that your battery or charger is defective.

Well so far battery is still showing it's charging which I think is better then it thinking it was charged 'cos then the problem might be in the camera. I have to log out now but will leave battery on charge a full 6hrs even if charge light goes out sooner.
