In my opinion, it would be silly for Sony to drop FF and go only mirrorless.
Sony competition for FF = Canon and Nikon. Sony competition for mirrorless = everyone and their mother.

But Sony competition for Mirrorless FF (ie NEX-9) is..... a $7000 Leica M9.

Some un-plundered fields there...

I'm not convinced that this is a great step forward. You trade in 3 primes for one zoom. You get 50 % more pixels but they are not better. I assume you work on base iso and f8 or so. In that way the A900 isn't going to be better then a K-5. Buy some good pano-software and stitch 3 K-5 images together.

If you compare the sensors in these two cameras at the "Print" setting (same output size) you will see that both sensors are very close but the K-5 has a much better DR.

DxOMark - Compare cameras side by side

However, due to its larger sensor size, the A900 should have a theoretical 1.2 stops better SNR (18%) figure than the K-5, but it's only about 0.5 stops better. So the K-5 is a much better performer for its sensor size. This is due to its higher quantum efficiency.

Thank you for the great analogy, I decided to return the A900 to the seller. I just can't give up a little pumpkin called k-5 .
