K-5 flash over-exposure solutions?

It is unacceptable that Pentax hasn't resolved this problem via firmware update. Add me to the list of disgruntled owners dealing with this issue. Metz 58 here. Best results obtained with Metz in auto mode or P-TTL with -1 flash compensation.

FIX THIS PENTAX!!!

Tried my wife's K-x tonight and no over exposure issues with the Metz 58.

What AE exposure mode/pattern do people have set (matrix, centre, spot?) when they experience over-exposure? Is there a common factor here?

I've tried manual, P and green. Metering on matrix.

What irks the crap out of me is that P-TTL was acceptable on my K10D, K20D and K-x. Along comes the K-5 and all goes to hell. And they just seem to ignore the problem like it doesn't exist. Serious love/hate relationship with this brand. Okay, rant done.

There is no solution. With my 16-45 at 16mm: need -1.3 EV, at 45mm never need compensation. It is crap.

In the pics on the first page the K5 exposure looks to be what it would look like outdoors at noon - so from that standpoint it appears to be correctly exposed. The first one is the most pleasing to my eye but I think it is about 1/2 stop underexposed. I have had overexposure problems as well but usually when I am too close and probably should go manual. I have found really like the results when I use "trailing curtain" setting.

Massive over-exposure with my K5 and Sigma 500. Putting the flash on my K10D with the same settings yields correct exposure. For whatever reason I couldn't get my flash out of Pttl mode when it was attached to the K5 (but I COULD on the K10D) so I put my Cactus V5 on the hotshoe and the flash on that to remove Pttl.

Have you tried the flash in auto mode since making the adjustment? I'm curious to know if that was also affected by the adjustment.

Interesting, but I certainly would not start tweaking unmarked pots on my AF360FGZ, and I'm an electronic engineer. But then again, I do not seem to have the overexposure problem with my K-5 according to test I did a few weeks ago after the latest firmware update.

cbope: I was very sceptical to any physical adjustments but since I had a flash unit that I couldn't use and Pentax didn't seem to bother to help resolve the issue, I tried...
