Well what do you know, I never noticed that before! How strange. I had to really look hard before the finger-print like pattern became obvious (and now that I know it's there, it's really obvious.) If I hadn't read this thread, I might have just assumed it was caused by the poor clarity of the magnifying eye-piece that I use. It's much more apparent in the upper left than anywhere else. I wonder why it's there?

The fine concentric lines visible in the viewfinder is perfectly normal. The lines are the Fresnel lenses etched on the focusing screen to spread the brightness to the corners of the screen.

It all depends on the shop. As soon as the shop realizes that the kit is the same as three individual pieces, tehy can by the kit and sell parts individually, making it easy for them to mix and match. If the shop does not do that - not selling enough Pentax gear - they go for the full replacement. Third option they sell enough gear and just mix and match as they like to please the customer...

This is a very interesting thread.

Yesterday the kit I bought from Salam in Dubai has 'DA 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 WR' mentioned on the box, but the lens that came with it is a 'SMC Pentax-DA 1:3.5-5.6 18-55mm AL II'. Is the AL II (certainly no WR treatment here) superior to the WR image quality wise?

They also gave me the K-r's manual instead of the K-5's. I'm concerned something weird is going on!

I don't know the actual answer but this link has info on Pentax lenses. Personally WR was important to me I'd not be happy with such a substitution

AL II and WR are optically the same, but the AL is not weather resistant. Your shop made a bugger up (to your disadvantage).

Congrats on getting a good camera.

I feel sorry for the clerk who agreed with your initial analysis who probably got reamed by the manager and made to watch the 'loss prevention" training video a few times.
(After the 'Is the customer really always right?' video.)

Aha, now I know how to adjust the diopter. I can see the concentric lines appearing, within one click. Before I could move the lever several clicks +/- without noticing any difference.

Well Salam has said they'll replace my kit, in about two weeks. Will report back when I get a replacement.

To the OP, if the shop orders and sells the camera under one product number, they will not split the item up because it would mess around with their inventory. It has to be sold together.
