Battery Charging Problem

Quick question. I have a number of 3rd party (yea I know) batteries for the K5 and while they initially charged fine, no it seems like the charger now shuts off early. If you lift the batter out and palce it back in the charger it will charge a little more. (and then lift it out again and it charges a little more again). In addition, the battery select light on the K5, inidicates varying levels of charging.

is this a problem with the Pentax Battery charger or 3rd party batteries. if so, why?

You must have at least one OEM battery. Does it do the same thing? If not, there's your answer.

It sounds like a battery problem, not the charger.
You can find cheap 3-rd party batteries everywhere on the Internet.
I've got 3 from dealextreme.com, they seem to have different capacities, but what am I complaining about considering the price...
Get a new one for a few $$'s

The age of the battery for Li batteries makes a HUGE difference. This is one reason that OEM batteries are preferrable because they have a date of manufacture stamp. Even sitting and unused they degrade. It's more likely your aftermarket batteries. The question about whether it happens with your Pentax battery is very relevant and so is the date on that battery. Since there is no way to tell when a non-Pentax was made its a bit of a crap shoot with them. Part of why I REALLY prefer the AA option on equipment.
