But the funny point is, that the display shows me a very longer video capacity,
BEFORE I start the recording....
That is probably the total amount of video you can fit on the remaining free space of the card. While the shorter length is the time it will take to fill a 4GB large file, which is the max file size the FAT32 file system used on a SD card allows.

K-5 movie length

Hi Gimbal,

Ok I'm going to check this (4GB limit)....
Do we have some alternative with the file system (I dont think so)...?

Best regards,

K-5 movie length

Dear all,

I'v just checked the best and the worst quality.

The one with 1920x1080x25 *** has about 2.47 gb (4:38 min)
The other one with 640x480x25 * has about 1.24 gb (25:00 min)

Neither has the size of 4gb. It might depend on compression...?

But I think, that I got it now.
One has to decide between quality and video length (sounds logical)....

Best regards,
njuBee

Maybe, as of firmware 1.02 we can use SDXC cards, but I don't know which file system the K5 uses for this.

Honestly, since you're using such a fine camera, there are few (zero?) times when anything professional is taken with a single shot that lasts more than 30 seconds to a minute.

If you need a camera to record an event in it's entirety , yes, I would recommend a dedicated video camera - we take along a Canon Vixa, but never use it.

The heat that builds up in the K5, along with the file size, make the shorter time in 1080p very reasonable.

K-5 movie length

Hi LaurenOE,

So, dont overrate my question with the video length ;-)
Of course I will use the camery mostly to take photos...!

But cause I'm a "sloth", I dont want to carry two devices with me ;-)

What does overrate mean in terms of a question?

My answer was based in a limitation that had a technical answer, but ultimately would be moot in case a Canikon fan were to chime in and say something like "Well..my Canikon can record until my hearts content".

You're not a sloth...and having multiple tools available (as I have) when out and about is not the opposite of being a sloth. A gorilla maybe?

class 4, 6, 10 etc referes to the min sustained write speed, and 15 or 20 MB/s referes to burst speeds.
although these figures seem to be ILS ratings and have never in my exp been all that accurate.
cheers
