I have had several tripods with the "quick flip" leg locks, and they all broke. I bought one from Manfrotto, thinking that one would hold together. It did, for about 10 months. So my basic suggestion is get a tripod that either has the kind of leg locks that are a sleeve you turn around the leg or the kind with a separate screw-locking knob. The flip-locks are quick and that's nice when you are setting up in a hurry, but once you can't lock the legs, the tripod is useless no matter how great the head or how sturdy the legs themselves. If I were turning some kind of screwing lock, maybe I could have been over tightening it, but that can't have been the case for these.
