You can try to fix it in Photoshop. Did you take the picture in RAW???

That's not the end of the world! I had imagined no detail at all.
"Next time", turn on the expanded range feature. I leave this on all the time with the K-7, as it hates overexposure.
Sorry, I don't have photoshop....

You could try editing this in camera - load it back onto your memory card if already deleted from the card.

I would set the white balance to cloudy or shade - I think that is part of the problem with the image looking washed out.
Then try dropping the exposure down by say, -0.7.

Try a few variations along these lines.

From memory, Pentax Digital Camera Utility lets you adjust white balance and exposure on Pentax jpegs that haven't been edited on any other software.

Also, shoot RAW or RAW+Jpeg in future. This has saved me so often. (Memory cards are cheap now anyway).

I would really, REALLY appreciate it.

It's really hard to make a final judgment with the sample photo. However, if you're really determined to fixing this, and you have access to the original location, you might save yourself alot of trouble by going back to the point of reference and taking another shot(using the same lens etc). This way you can take care of most of the blown-out elements in the scene and put your focus on the subjects.

Aside from this, I think it's quite possible to retouch the subjects with a little TLC. Though if you had to include the background, then that could require a substantial amount of work and experience. - that is without seeing the original image of course.

It is a bit difficult to see what you have "done" as EXIF-data appears to have been lost. Did you do anything else than resizing your picture before upload?

Anyway, highlights aren't completely burned out so you might have a chance to improve upon your picture - something like this (assuming that you have access to some digital imaging software):

1. Darken midtone in CURVES
2. "Finetune" in LEVELS
3. Perhaps add a "finishing touch" in White Balance

It is always easier to correct for flaws with images that are not downsized, but here is an attempt as per above:
