Battery Grip D-BG4

Just received this battery grip today and I really like the way the camera feels in my hand. (I have fairly large hands). Especially nice for vertical shooting. The cost was a little steep IMO. Not like it's a super motor drive or something, it's just a battery grip. Definitely glad I got one though.

Glad for you!

And you should realize that this is more than "just a grip" ...

it has controls, nice ones too.

Cheers!

Don't forget to stuff a spare SD card in it too. Come's in handy. I love my grip and close my eyes on the cost. The K5 was made for it IMHO.

Welcome aboard. It's a nice piece of kit. I agree with you about the price and waited to buy mine gently used. First try resulted in a DOA warehouse deal from an Amazon vendor but got my money refunded and went on to buy the 2nd one from an individual with 100% rating for dozens of photography sales on eBay and could not be happier with the unit and the price was definitely better (about 65%).

Bought 3 D-BG4 grips from B&H, (2 on K-7`s 1 on K-5) so far they are all solid performers.

I have the grip on my K-5 most of the time. Makes the camera a lot easier to handle, especially with big and heavy lenses.

I felt the D-BG4 transformed my K5 into something special to hold.

Without it I seemed to have too many fingers and not enough places to put them.

And how great is it to have your major buttons in the same place in portrait mode.

Now I feel like I'm the only one who didn't know about the SD card storage in the grip. Thanks for the tip. I'll no longer keep the spare in my pocket like I have for the last year.

i really want one. i had the knockoff grip and liked the feel of it, but the shutter button felt too mushy and then stopped working altogether. my hand gets sore from holding the camera with sigma 70-200 mounted. the grip helped give me a little more area to spread the weight out on. just wish i had the money for the pentax grip.

Pentax K-5, K-7 battery grip, 3rd party

hi all

have an original Pentax battery grip, using it on my K-5, works great ...

also have a 3rd party battery grip, one of the supposedly better ones that i bought after researching a lot (mostly here on this forum) which i use it on my K-7, but unfortunately its lucking mechanism's crank-like handle broke off the other day, although i was truly over-cautious when using it, as it's a very fragile item, even on the original Pentax grip!

of course the mechanism is still ok and holds the battery tray finely, but the handle is gone, impossible to repair (at least for me!) and hard to open and close now, which is a drag ...

am thinking if there is any solution around this problem?

The battery grip transforms the handling of the K-5 into another league. What's more, after >2200 shots in a day recently I still had power to burn.
