K5 is my first DSLR. I bought it 13 months ago at USD1400 plus USD640 for DA 18-135.
I enjoyed the K5 around 3-5 hours per week The shutter count is around 52000 now

It may be still worth of USD600+400 and so I spent USD5/hour or USD0.02/shutter with pleasure!!

It's not just about what you lose over a period of ownership.

It's what you pay for what you wouldn't have, if you delayed till the price had fallen.

The cheapest legit price I've seen was a very brief $749 sale talked about in this thread. Looks like more than one person has received their cameras already. There is some speculation it was a pricing error, but I think if it were, it would have been corrected a lot faster.
I guess I was one of the lucky ones you are referring to, as I did order immediately after reading the post and did receive the camera. Its a great camera, and the price (error or not - I have no idea) was tremendous. My only regret was that someone posted a similar link for QVC in selling the Q for something like $235 and I didn't pull the trigger. I just returned home this afternoon from a business trip, no room for the K5 so I took my little LX3. I was thinking that the Q would have been perfect for times like this. Oh well - I had the LX3 and I think I got some good shots.

I really like the K5......

New K-5 rebates in France/Europe ... 50€ & 80€

Bonjour,

Just FYI here ... (posted again in case one missed this earlier)

Until July 15th, there's a 50€ rebate on a K-5 body, and there's a 80€ rebate on a K-5 with a lens included in the sale. (France & Europe ...)

See Pentax France : Jusqu'à 80? remboursés sur le PENTAX K-5 - PENTAX Photo

See Numipixel, Internet dealer : Reflex Num

Voilà ... for what it's worth this info ... bon courage!

Salut, John le Frog

Cashback

I just took advantage of the cashback offer and sent off my form, after picking up a K5 and a couple of DA* lenses from SRS over in the UK. It's £80 - about $120? That cash can go to fund a wide angle landscape lens which I can't afford just yet!

When newer technology is introduced it puts downward price pressure on all exiting brands. Nikon is releasing the D3200 24MP DSLR with "Kit Lens" for only $700.00. New folks to the DSLR market are probably giving this thing a good look over. It will probably knock the K-r right out of the market and siphon off at least a few potential K5 customers. If Nikon ever gets around to releasing a D7100 or D7200 it will probably make the price of the K5 drop substantially.

The D3200 with a lens is only $50.00 more than the K-r with no lens. I think a price drop is coming!!!

The K-r is already discontinued. Only existing inventory will be sold. Retailers may indeed choose to drop prices on stock they have, as some have.
