K-5 in my stable, let the learning curve begin

Well, Just added a K-5 to my kit, got a free second battery with the deal, and extended 4 yr warrenty. I put in a few of the basics I had a presets in my K-7 user modes, now to get out this weekend and see exactly how much better this thing is, first impressions, I't a K-7 with K-5 written on it, but then You turn it on, and you clearly see its a different animal. Form a few first pics, I can see clearer pics, I like the auto zoom when AF in LV, but is there anyway to stop that???? I'll have to read the manual. Anyway, here I go again..

Yes you can stop that auto-zoom it's in the menu somewhere, don't ask me where...
Mos likely under the AF or liveview settings.

Look on the bright side - you are starting the K-5 learning curve from a K-7 perspective, while I started mine from a P&S!

It is worth every bit of the effort IMHO, even if it takes me some time to get there. That actually was my mission - to get back to the level I had been at (a long time ago) with film and the K-5 seems to be an ideal tool for that journey. Enjoy.

K-7 to K-5, been there & still doing that ...

Bonjour cmohr,

Congratulations. I also upgraded from my used K-7 to a new K-5 ... and still learning (curve) more and more over the past three months. I need to sit down and read the French manual which was provided ... or "breakdown" and print out an English version ... because I hate reading on laptop screens!

Soyez bienvenu au club! J Frog

Thanks Guys, just about to head out again today, swapped my Grip over from the K-7 to the K-5 last night, will keep the K-7 for the time being as a back up and just to have handy for general happy snaps.

I'm very happy that I already had the experience with the K-7 so the menus and layout are not a mystery to me on the K-5, but the new options and saving USER modes will take getting used to.

Good luck with the manual John, as a side note my house mate is in the process of moving to Paris at the moment to live with his girlfriend, he'll be there next week for a week and then permently from May, and he doesn't speak french.......yet.

Au revoir John
