I have to say that I agree with what you believe. However, Pentax USA (assuming you can believe everything they say) advised me that in fact it is not unusual for Pentax to send a camera to a destination (like NY) with the local, date stamp and time preset.
Do I buy that? I don't know. But the camera was at 0 clicks apparently because
I could account for every single shutter actuation I made when I PhotoeMe'd the camera and it registered 72.
Now the only problem with the dang camera is SDXC issues. I don't know whether or not they have addressed that in the most recent firmware.
