Hi

Understandable, but there may be a ligit reason for this delay, they simply may not have a replacement. I am certain all will be o.k. in the end. I had a number of dealings with CR Kennedy over the years and found them quite accommodating.

Greetings

I had to deal with CR Kennedy for a while to get a DA 21mm repaired. It took almost 6 months for a resolution (let's just say contacting customers isn't their forte), and it involved me following up with a stern email. However, this was not through a retailer.

The Sydney mob are pretty bad to deal with, but the Melbourne guys are much better. I hope that sheds some light in the dealings with CR Kennedy. I have heard very similar stories from others with regard to the pissweak communication from them. The general consensus is: You have to keep chasing them up.

Finally resolved

I have received a brand new replacement K-5 from CR Kennedy with new-ish serial number (4225277) manufacture date Oct 2011 and shutter count of zero. It's a pity it took such a long time, but I am very pleased that I have a new camera!

Thanks for taking the trouble to let us know.

i'm glad I found this thread. I just purchased a k-5 this afternoon which was supposedly new, but when I opened it noticed that the packaging of each item was a bit crinkled and not so 'new'-looking, so i checked the shutter count and found it to be 2290. A little bit high for a brand new unit, that's for sure. I think I'll be taking it back tomorrow.

I also purchased an 18-55mm WR lens at the same time to upgrade from my DA L 18-55mm, but noticed that the caps of the rear side are a bit scratched. I'm contemplating just returning that too.

Althought I got mine replaced, I am very annoyed at Pentax and/or their dealers for pulling these kinds of stunts. They are giving Pentax a bad reputation (well deserved in this case).

If you pay for a new camera, you are entitled to get a new one. It may that be these 'pre-used' cameras have gone back to the factory for a total check-up & are good-as-new, but you don't know that and have no way of telling.

I'd have no hesitation in returning anything which isn't brand new and demanding a new replacement. Not sure what country you are in saff, but it's illegal in Australia to sell something 'as new' when it's not.

Hi everyone. Just wanted to write and say thanks a lot for the feedback / advice. I took the camera back and got a different one the next day that they had shipped in from their warehouse. The packaging all looks minty this time, and the serial starts 433 which is a good sign. I returned and got a new lens as well, since the first one looked a little too suspicious, and the new one is gleaming and pristine.

New shutter count: 1 (from my test shot). Yay! Looks like it'll be a fun weekend getting acquainted with my new friend.

Thanks again for the replies!

All three of the K-5 I went through started with a shutter count of 0.
