advice--- what does "force fitting" a lens mean

hi everyone-- i hope i posted in the right place-- sorry, i am a newbie :> anyway, here is my question:

i would like a 50mm or 55mm f1.2 lens for my k-5. price is a factor for me--- i can't spend a lot of money right now.... i see on ebay there are older nikon f1.2 lenses that are pre AI--- and that they will "force fit" onto the pentax dSLR's. okay, soooooo what does that mean exactly? are shreds of metal going to come off trying to get this lens to mount? seriously, it's a bit concerning!

the lens come off once it's mounted? and will i need an adapter for pre AI nikon lenses?

i was hoping someone here could explain this a bit better before i make a purchase.

thank you in advance!!!!!! ;>

You have a nice $1200 K-5 that you want to 'force fit' a non-spec lens to...because you want to save money???

Good luck with that!

Can't you atleast get an old manual Pentax 50mm lens? They can't be too much $$$ (I see plenty for $20-$70), can they?

With "photo correction glass". I guess if you are shooting at f1.2, that will not matter as not much is in focus anyway :-)

I have an unbranded version of the same adapter. The glass block can be unscrewed to turn the adapter into a short extension tube with Nikon lens mount and Pentax camera mount. You cannot focus to infinity any longer, but for close shots it works fine without degradation.

Force fitting a K5 is considered "molestation" and carries a year in prison at hard labor......I wouldn't do it, but if you do, keep it to yourself.
Regards!

Not sure about the Nikon, but infinity focus with the Canon FD adapter and a 50mm is about 3 inches when you remove the glass.

RioRico uses Nikon lenses all the time without an adapter. He'll tell you he's never lost one yet.

You have a thousand dollar K-5....why not save up a bit and get a Cosina 55 1.2 or a K50 1.2 for 300. It will probably save you a lot of hassle, and my guess, if you really want a 1.2 lens, you're going to end up sooner or later wanting a PK mount 1.2 anyways.

The Nikon adaptor is 10-12 mm deep from memory and therefore it acts like an extension tube that is greater than the minimum focus extension of thie 50mm. Therefore working distance will start at about 30cm (1 foot for metric impared)

Put the glass in and it acts like a 1.25x tele converter but a poor one

For what it's worth I recall several older postings on fitting pre-AI lenses to Pentax. And force fit was not the operative term. Nevertheless (1) I would not try it on a K-5 first, and (2) I would want to know a lot more before I listened to/followed someone who says this works fine.

One thing that made me curios reading this thread, isn't it possible to refit the nikon lens mount using an m42->K-mount ring or something in that direction?

There are many threads that discuss replacing an F mount with a flanged m42 adapter for example. But why bother when a pre-ai lens will loosely fit without any modification?

For example.
