Using the Metz 58 AF-2 in Wireless mode

Hi,

I'm new to the forum so apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place.

I recently bought a K5, and with it a Metz flash.

I was wondering if it's possible to use the flash wirelessly without the main built-in flash firing, as I thought the main purpose was to avoid the main harsh light emitted by the camera. Surely this is defeated if the built-in flash fires face-on?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Well, you can't completely shut the pop-up flash off when you want to use wireless flash. However, if you go into the menu and I believe it's on the second to last page or tab, there's a wireless flash option there. You want to change that so that the pop-up flash is Controller (instead of Master) when in wireless flash mode. That way it won't affect the exposure even though it will still fire.

Hope that helps!

It is possible with the K5 and the 50 AF-2 so I bet it is with the 58 also. Setting 21 in the K5 custom menu lets you toggle this, see page 191 of operators manual. It allows you to turn off onboard flash as the master flash and only uses it to control the slave.

Check page 191-192 you can set the built-in flash as Master or Control in wireless mode.
