Lens mount fell of my K-5!

Today I tried for the first time a used teleconverter I got recently (Soligor 3x). I mounted it between a Tamron 70-300 and my K-5, snapped a shot. Fine but blurry (of course, at 3x300mm). So I reached for the tripod while holding the camera in one hand, lens down and... The lens and converter fell off the camera, taking the lens mount itself with it! It took a second before I understood what had happened. But the bayonet mount is stuck inside the converter.

I'm taking the whole setup to the shop where I bought it tomorrow (luckily the camera is still under warranty). Has anyone ever experienced anything like this? I mean, it's not like i attached a huge heavy thing to the camera. The Tammy is lightweight and the converter isn't a monster either.

Ok, pics attached (pardon the blur/out of focus, they're quick handheld snaps).

Wow, that must suck! I'd put some cellophane over the opening to keep dust from accumulating inside.

Hold on - that picture of the K-5 body looks like the teleconverter mount broke and is still on the camera.
It doesn't look like the K-mount came off of the camera.
Have you tried pressing the lens release button on the K-5 and try twisting the broken mount off with your fingers?

It's packed in bubble wrap and resting in the box now. I'm trusting this will go on warranty so it's actually a bit amusing. A little bit... I'll try and get a replacement instead of a fix, I don't trust this copy if such a thing can happen.

Are you sure that the lens mount on the camera fell off?

To me it looks like the rear mount of the teleconverter fell off the teleconverter.

You now have the rear of the teleconverter stuck to your camera.

Just push the lens release button on the camera and remove the rear of the teleconverter and then throw the teleconverter in the bin.

Regards

Chris

sorry that happened to you, never heard of anything like it before.
Jin's 's got the right idea, i think i would go with something better like a l gallon size zip lock bag to keep the dirt out

edit:
I agree with seventh and rjp, its not your camera thats broken..

Yeah if you look at this photo you can see that the actual lens mount opening is much bigger. Try depressing the lens release button and untwisting the metal piece off the lens mount and you should be fine..

Ok... I feel incredibly, utterly stupid right now... You're right of course! Thanks a lot, you saved me an embarrasing moment at my camera dealer tomorrow! Though the guy who sold me the converter will hear about this...

(Sneaks out the back door, hoping no one will notice...)
