Charging K5 On The Road?

Is there any kind of contraption that will allow you to charge up the K5 with your car?
I'm worried about the battery going dead on long weekend drives and outings away from civilization.
I guess the battery grip is one option but I would rather keep things as light as possible.

Yep. I keep one in my dash at all times.
I also keep 4 fully charged packs in my bag at all times also. Anyways, this is the one I use. It's a little slower than using the wall but it can get you out of bind and that's a good thing IMO:

If your car has an accessory outlet (lighter outlet) then get yourself an inverter. I got mine for $24 & use it for everything that requires 120V.

Google Inverter....

That's the lightest option. Next would be the battery grip (especially with the AA insert). An inverter and charger would be the bulkiest, but would easily work. An inverter is very handy anyway.

get 2 aftermarket extra batteries. don't cost much. I keep one in the charger, one in the camera case and one in the camera and rotate.
weight is minimal and you are always not far from ready to go.

I have a grey battery grip and 4 batteries... no room to carry the AA insert, but I recon I could shoot for a week without recharging (haven't tried it yet though)

I use a cheap little lighter-socket inverter to charge batteries for cameras, recorders-players, radios, cell phones, laptops, flashlights, airbed pumps, whatever. Damn, that's a lot of stuff to keep charged up...

I have an inverter as well, keeps me from buying a car charger every time I get a new cell phone.

I use it an inverter as well, and use it primarily to charge my cell phones. The only problem i've had is on a Honda Fit, it secures power to the cigarette lighter when the ignition turns off. And normally our trips in the car are too short to fully charge the cell phone. With the Chevy we have, we can just let the inverter complete the charge during the night when the car is turned off.

If you don't use Live View much I find that my K5 is very economical with batteries, I have 3 (2 X 3rd party) and have never needed to use them all even when I'm on a shoot for a week. My mileage is I can fill 2 X 16Gb cards on one battery.

I was in 8-days mountain trip with sub-freezing temperatures and two genuine batteries were more than enough with K-7 (2x8 gb + 3x4 gb cards were more of limiting factor). I had a D-BG4 battery grip with me with double set of AA batteries but it came back home untouched. The second D-LI90 was still half-charged when I got back home. I didn't use live view, though. After that I sold the grip and used only two batteries.

B&H Photo has an aftermarket charger made by Pearstone. It can be charge the battery using 110/60Hz, 220/ 50Hz European or an included 12Vdc car adapter. Cost is $19.95.

I use either an invter or the adorama charger. Both works really well. I like how with the Adorama charger the led wii be red when charging and green when charged.
