Probably go back down to the $1099 that was predicted. But as of 12:01 PDT it was $1499 at B&H...

I had one in my cart at $989, and when I saw the $1499 I freaked and bought it. Might be the last $989 one ever!

Lol.

(I freaked again when I saw the K-3 Full Frame announcement, but then I realized the date...

)

Well, a friend of mine just picked up a new K-5 body here in Australia for $950AU, which translates to around $995US at the moment.

It appears that the world has turned upside down. The Pentax web store is actually cheaper than B&H for K-5 body only. Never thought I would see that.

The only thing that disturbs me, is that I noticed while perusing B&H, is that this makes the K-5 more expensive than a D7000 (by about $120). I'm not so sure that's a terribly good strategy for K-5 sales.

Amazon seems to be better reputation but Abes of Maine is cheaper.

Yup, even worse, the 50-135 went from 899 or 895 to 1599 at Adorama. That Tamron 70-200 is looking a lot more attractive!

Price here in Finland has not changed at all since I bought my K-5 kit (w/ 18-55) last November, 999€. Current exchange rate to the USD is hovering around 1.3 so that puts it at 1300 USD. Funny to see it's much more expensive in the US with the new pricing, especially when our 999€ price includes the 23% VAT!

Typically, cameras as a whole tend to be a bit cheaper in the US compared to here... but not in this case. Unfortunately lenses here are about double what they cost in the US

Yes, it's a Pentax USA thing. The USA pricing structure, although it was cheap for the buyer, was very unprofessional. It always felt like you were buying the gear on clearance just before the company went under!

I see Amazon is still at $979. What is weird is that before B&H and Adorama went up, Amazon was at $1199. I guess Amazon is dumping Pentax or it's just the weekend and the computer had too much partying last night!

The lens prices jump is staggering, but I think long term it's necessary in order to be a real player. We'll see. (Can't hurt used prices, though.)

For example, DA* 16-50 f2.8 is 988€ x 1.31 = $1294 US (this example is not as bad as some of the other Pentax lenses)
