Right now the minimum selling price for the K-5 is $1096.95. If you see any dealer selling it for less, then it's gray market and the warranty won't be honored in the US.

If the camera is being sold by a private seller and was originally purchased before the pricing changes, though, I still think you'll get warranty.
Warranties don't change hands AFAIK Adam. original purchaser only

Purchases from authorized Canadian dealers would still carry the 1 year international warranty and the card comes in the box.

As pointed out though Ryther is a pretty sleazy option, grey market and hard upsells after the purchase, they may be in jersey but they sell like they are from brooklyn

As low as $948.99 but none of these vendors are Amazon direct.

The K-5 is also available for as low as $772.61 if you are okay with used.

I still go by the same guidelines...if it comes with chips and tarter sauce...it may be fishy.

I bought my k5 form ryther when it was $919 there. Took nearly a month and 5-6 phone calls to get it (they promised I'll have it in 2 weeks and they are located 10 miles from me). Camera came in a box from k5+18-55 lens kit (with lens removed) with Polish warranty...

So I assume I was waiting for it to arrive from Poland to them, and then they shipped it to me (using Fedex, when I actually ordered 'slow' USPS shipping)

so in other words to save maybe 80 bucks you have no warranty and it took a month to get a camera you could have had in a few days from a reputable dealer?

And you live in the same city as BH photo?

Personally over $80 not a chance i would have done that route. To save $80 with warranty i would buy from a lesser dealer (though i would give the big dealer with better policies a chance to match the price first)

Hi Eddie,

Lots of us don't know any better, and we learn the hard way. Please don't be critical of us. We'll know better next time.

Take care, Tom

Yes it was a bad experience but at that time prices at B&H etc were $1200 + tax so I saved more. If I were to do it again and tried to save, I'd try to find a deal on craigslist or ebay.

given the price at the time it makes more sense. I just hate giving grey market guys any business. In almost every case they are a bunch of sleazeballs (some exceptions of course BH does after all sell some grey product)

Of course 25 years of battling grey nmarket dealers in my retail career may have slightly skewed my opinions

I'm glad you had no issues with the camera in any case. I hate to see someone get a grey product and then have issues, as i realise most are like you not realizing what the issues can be

Heck personally i don't even by product from BH because for me they are the equivalent of grey market since they aren't a canadian dealer (Chuck will argue otherwise but he is wrong.- he is an American authorized dealer, for everyone else he is a grey market exporter - though one with good service and return policies)

Hi JMG,

It came, just as I was leaving for work. Everything appears to be in order. The battery is on charge, and I'll try it out tomorrow.

Thanks, Tom
