NIKKOR 50mm f/1.2 on K5?

Is it possible?

It looks like an awesome lens that is readily available and not too expensive. I know some Nikon lenses can be mounted without any mods (twisting in the other direction) is this possible with this lens. A quick google confuses me

thanks

I think it is possible, but unless you already own it why not just buy a K50/1.2 or a third party 50/1.2? I tihnk the going rate is under $400. How much cheaper is the Nikon?

It's an AI-s lens so a bit needs to be dremeled of. RioRico can tell you how to do this. From what I've seen the K50/1.2 is cheaper anyway.

An AI lens is easily dremeled. It can then never be used on a Nikon camera again. If you already own the lens, don't care about destroying its value, plan to never sell it nor use it elsewhere, then go ahead and chop it. Otherwise, better to sell it and buy a K50/1.2.

If you MUST chop it, look at the aperture ring. You'll see what I call the "nub and arc" protrusions. Just use a Dremel metal-cutting blade to trim those down. Smooth-off the cuts, blow away the dust, and the lens will easily force-fit onto a PK mount. For more security, cut a 1mm hole or slot for the PK lens-release pin to engage. Good luck!

I don't own it but I can grab it for under $100. So it wouldn't be a big issue.

a K 50mm/1.2 would be perfered though... the wifey did get our IP to block ebay....

Zowie, that's a bargain! You could still probably sell it for rather more. But go ahead, chop away. You might want to get a cheap AI-mount lens to practice on. My first Nikon chop was a Nikkor 85/2 that only cost me US$9. I spent a couple days working on it slowly. Those I've chopped since then take about 5 minutes each, including setup and cleanup. No big deal -- once accustomed to the work.

Just grab the lens for 100usd, but
I won't chop the lens. it is relatively simple task to change the mount.
Chop the lens will reduce the value to zero.
Also in respect of a good lens from other brand.

I would just grab it and resell it instantly ;-)
Easy money (!)

btw, the pentax K50/1.2 and A50/1.2 has the best image at f1.2.
cosina may be a bit sharper, but harsh bokeh
Nikkor came as second choice, but I don't have the nokton version of nikkor.

The trick is to find a k1.2 without the use of PayPal or eBay.

Then again the A 50mm 1.4 is readily available and a loved lens.

That it is. Is the extra 1/2 stop worth $300-400 more? Oh, the 1.2 has one extra aperture blade too.

Shall I once again trot out my old example of my Sears-Tomioka 55/1.4 (6 iris blades, US$2.25) vs my K50/1.2 (8 blades, US$250) and ask if the K is really worth 111x the T? The 55/1.4 actually has slightly thinner DOF than the 50/1.2. Or, depending on how DOF is measured, slightly thicker, but very close. And wide-open, the blade count matters not. Now, a 58/1.2 with good blades and bokeh, THAT is a treat! I think.

Back to the Nikkor: Changing the mount (rather than chopping it) is rather simple but will impact infinity focus. An almost-as-good trick: Unscrew the base. Put 1mm-thick washers on the screws under the base. Might need longer screws too. Reassemble and go.
