2 k5 operating questions

What is the difference [ or effect] of changing the Program line setting from auto to normal or visa versa? the other modes are self explanatory.

My second question was recently covered but I can't find the thread so how to use the CTE white balance setting/ a example would using it would be helpfull.

thanks in advance

I don't think there's such a think as a manual program line, is there? If you're talking about manual mode, then you set both the shutter speed and the aperture yourself, whereas in the P more (or hyper P mode) the camera either sets both, or you set one and the camera automatically sets the other.

Here (https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-k-5/186467-auto-iso-pentax-k-5-av-...ml#post1956861) is a recent posting of mine explaining the auto program line.

I think that Normal is the traditional program line. Auto changes from the Hi-speed, deep DOF, shallow DOF and the MTF priority based on the detected scene. I have nothing to go by except for the K200D "auto scene" mode the determined which of the scene modes it would use. I must say I would avoid any auto selection unless I knew how it determined it. I have set mine to MTF, but then I am still trying to work out which mode to use (at the moment it is Av)

The difference is seen in the differing exposure solutions chosen by the camera when set to
normal or auto program line.

For instance, in in same light, P mode might pick f/5.6, 1/250, ISO 80 on normal program line,
versus perhaps f/2.8, 1/1000 on auto program line. Or it might change its mind to f/11, 1/60
if you zoomed out and focused to infinity because auto program line reckons that's probably a
landscape-type shot calling for large DOF.

That's what different program lines do. They are different solutions to the general problem of
picking an exposure solution (f-stop, shutter speed, iso) for a given light level.

Regards,
--Anders.
