Joined the K-5 club.

Woohoo my camera arrived early today through UPS, bought the K-5 and 18-55 WR set from BHphotovideo. First thing I did was charged the battery, then checked my firmware was v1.01. I went through the beginner's screen setting up the time, location, edited some settings to back to my K-7 settings again, etc. Then updated the firmware to v1.13. Then put on the strap which took awhile! Took a few shots and this camera is a good one! No shutter problems. Phew! Thank God.

Congrats on the purchase. It's a wonderful camera...small and built like a tank! Yeah, that strap is a little bit of a pain to put on. Enjoy shooting.

I'm getting mine from Adorama on Monday!

My planned unboxing procedure is:
  1. Unbox and gawk, caress, and drool (WR for the win)
  2. Charge Battery and Re-Read Manual
  3. Test/Adjust AF with a chart
  4. Go Shooting!

As far as locations, I work in Boca Raton, so I'm thinking about going out on my lunch break on Tuesday. I'll probably hit up Mizner Park, see if there are any interesting characters in Sanborn Square, and the Cold-War-chic Old IBM Campus. Hmmm, maybe I'll need more than one lunch break

One question, any way to tell what's an "early" vs "late" serial number?

Check the serial number database to see the progression of the serial numbers. Be sure and log yours so folks can see how they are faring.

Just added mine to the database and mine is a very new version although the firmware with it was only v1.01. Seems like all the old ones mainly with problems have a serial number starting at 38, while the newer ones start with 42 or 43.

Congrats on the purchase! I originally came to PF because of the K30 but decided to with the K5 and 35 2.4 instead. Handling is fantastic. With the most recent price drop I decided to pick up the DA 18-135 and look forward to its arrival.
