O-ME53 + EES Focusing Screen?

Does anyone have any experience with the O-ME53 Magnifying Loupe + EES Focusing Screen? Is it unacceptably dark? Impressions?

No experience, but it's like going from an aperture of 2.8 to an aperture of 3.06 - not quite a third of a stop. It'd be tough to see a difference.

I don't have the EE-S screen (yet), but I do have the O-ME5 eyepiece and it isn't much darker than bare stock. Probably because it doesn't provide all that much magnification.

Some people love them, I... have it on my camera but wouldn't purchase it again.

I have both, but only have fast lenses (with the exception of a sigma 8-16 and the kit 18-55WR).
It's true that with slow (f/4.5-5.6) lenses, the viewfinder seems dark, but as it is way more defined than the stock screen (that quickly becomes grainy), I don't find this a problem, really.

Ouch. I bought it earlier this year from B&H and it was only 30 bucks at that time, now it is up to 50 bucks as you mention. I think it was worth 30, but not sure about 50, I guess that is subjective either way.

As some others have noted, it moves the eyecup back from the plane of the LCD, which improves the ergonomics somewhat.

I have both, use them with my 400 f4 and 2.8 300. Works great, both together have helped me get focus and many more keepers.

If I put my 1.4 on my 400, getting about f5.6 560 I need good light for it to work.

For the fast short primes, it works very well.

I wear glasses and don't find any problems. The added magnification helps quite a bit with manual focus.

I have both. The O-ME53 is on the K5 almost all the time (and has been on the K10). As I use mostly slower lenses (DA300+Kenko 1,4x TC; Tamron SP 2,5/90+1,4X TC), I normally use the Canon EE-A, and not the EE-S, as that is darkening too much the viewfinder. Maybe I give it another try.
Cheers - Klaus
