Looks like (lots of) dust on the sensor. Find "sensor cleaning" with your menu button and use a good pin-point blower to blast the muck off. If that doesn't work it might need formal cleaning, which I have not done myself and would probably defer to a pro shop.

This thing has always done the trick for me:
Giottos Rocket Air Blaster, Manual Air Blower with Bulb AA1900

Thought I've never seen that much dust at once before...

It could be water stains also, looks like it could be water specks spraid on the sensor, maybe coming through the lens mount? I could be wrong.

What does the K5 sensor dust display show? Those really do look more serious than air is going to solve. But you shouldn't hesitate to give the sensor a wet cleaning with a suitable cleaner. I assume the same spots show up when you photograph any plain surface with a small aperture (making it easier to see the spots.)

Dust is still more likely. Have a good look at the sensor. Try the blower first. Next step — wet clean.

If you tried the basics with giottos rocket blower and in-body dust removal and it still doesn't work; Most likely your local camera store will do sensor cleaning for around 50 bucks, otherwise you can buy your own sensor cleaning kit from that store. Or try online here Pentax O-ICK1 Image Sensor Cleaning Kit 39357 - I heard this one works like a charm.

.
Yeah there are some Leica users who use it too. I believe this is the Pentax similar version of a kit that even professional cleaners from Canon and Nikon use to clean cameras in their facility. It appears only Pentax is the one that sells their own kit out to regular DSLR users.

You have been here hanging around for couple years, try a search for "dust on the sensor" or "sensor stains".
