K5 clip protector?

Anyone have a suggestion for finding replacement leather (strap) clip protectors for the K5? I somehow managed to lose one of mine in about a 5x4 foot space...

I took those off as soon as I bought the camera, I use an opt-tech strap, but if I remember correctly they are just a bit of leather, right? You might be able to get a replacement from Pentax but likely very expensive. You could also try ebay and might get lucky. If it was me I would just find a bit of leather and cut it to shape. You could do both sides so they match. Old purse or belt will do for a source.

If you can find a leather working store or saddle making shop you could likely get a piece of leather from them and cut your own. The one by my house has hides that are tanned in a variety of colors that you could use for a little flair to customize your camera. I have some buckskin left over from a project which I could easily cut up to match the other one if I lost one. Of course it would be tan but who cares, unless you do?

Find a piece of black leather or 'simili' and a sharp knife, dismount and copy the one you still have.

Really the best thing to do is wrap those suckers with a double thickness of black electrical tape - otherwise over time the lugs will scratch the camera body.

Yeah those leather ones are expensive. I really hope the k-3 does away with these type of strap holders. I much prefer the bar ones such as the k-r's k-30's. They make less noise and look more streamlined with the camera.

I thought I'd like the original style lugs rather than the newer type that feeds the strap throught it, BUT I've stopped using the K5 strap holder as it puts all the weight of the camera/lens onto a small section of the ring which I noticed was beginning to wear the lugs on the body.

I find the StrapMate from 7dayshop, which screws into the tripod socket on the bottom, a better was to carry the K5; it also has the advantage of keeping the straps out of the way when bringing the K5 up to the face to take a shot.
